Spitz and Wachau, lovely wine landscapes, stone terraces, fine wines, wine tavern gardens and the much praised Danube immediately come to mind. The Wachau is rightly a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
From the Church Square to the Red Gate
The wine trail in Spitz is a circular trail. It begins and ends at the church square in the center of Spitz. The hiking trail is signposted with a wine bottle symbol. The first destination is the so-called ‘Red Gate’, where you will be rewarded with an enchanting view over Spitz, the Danube and the surrounding vineyards.
From the Red Gate to the ‘Schönste Weinsicht Spitz’
The view from the Red Gate down to Spitz is a popular photo motif. Another highlight is the great view from an even higher rest area, which, based on the ‘Schönste Weinsicht’ awards in Germany, can also be called the ‘Most Beautiful Wine View Spitz’. This is the highest point of our wine route. From here you have a great view of the so-called 1000-Eimerberg mountain and the Danube valley above and below Spitz.
Descent to the Radlbach valley and back to Spitz
After a leisurely break at the ‘Schönste Weinsicht Spitz’ rest area, we begin the descent into the valley to the Radlbach. The wine bottle again shows us where the descent begins. For a short distance it goes cross-country through the vineyards. A little further down you come to a paved road again.
Arrived in Radlbachtal, we simply follow the paved road again and the signs with the wine bottle. Back in Spitz, it’s time to end the day with a glass of good wine. The Özelt winery on Kirchenplatz is just one of the many possibilities.
