Bernkastel-Kues is a picturesque wine town on the Moselle. Here you will find romantic vineyards and countless opportunities for wine hikes. Today’s wine hiking day takes you through vineyards up to the Landshut castle ruins, where you will experience a wonderful view of the vineyards on the Moselle.
You have at least two options to hike to the Landshut castle ruins.
One possibility is to walk through the forest from behind on Burgstrasse. To do this, go through the village to Burgstrasse. The rear exit of the Burgberg tunnel is at the end of Burgstrasse. Here you cross the street and then continue uphill into the Tiefenbachgraben. Always along the forest path you come to the Landshut castle ruins.
The second and more romantic option is via the Schloßweg . To do this, go along the main street No. 53 (‘Gestade’) – to the junction, where the Schloßweg begins on the left (see photo). Follow the Schloßweg and then one of the paths through the vineyards that lead up to the castle ruins.
A third comfortable option – just take the ‘Burg Landshut Express’ .
There is also a restaurant with a terrace and a great view on the Landshut castle ruins. Allow some time to eat and drink too. With a little luck you will get a terrace with the best view.
Just take the same route back. For sporty people there is also a very steep path called Berab, which leads directly through the vines down to the Schloßweg. Or you can take the other route down. Or maybe the ‘Landshut Express’ if you don’t want to hike anymore.
